Born of the annual Inc. 5000 franchise, this regional list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the Midwest economy’s most dynamic segment– its independent small businesses.

Methodology 

The 2024 Inc. 5000 Regionals are ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2020 and 2022. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2020. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2022. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2020 is $100,000; the minimum for 2022 is $1 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons.

Vistabeam Brings Digital Empowerment Program to Chappell, Nebraska

Vistabeam is proud to announce the establishment of its first Nebraska Empowerment Center in Chappell. This initiative aims to demystify computer usage for individuals who may find technology daunting, providing them with essential digital skills through specialized "Empowerment Centers."

At the heart of this endeavor, Vistabeam has partnered with the Chappell Senior Center, equipping it with essential equipment, including a computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, camera, and microphone. These tools will empower seniors to participate in the Empowerment Center's comprehensive digital skills program. Two local employees have been appointed as "digital navigators" who will master the computer program modules and subsequently guide others through the learning process.

Since 2004, Vistabeam has been steadfast in its commitment to bridging the digital divide, expanding its coverage to areas in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming. The company actively pursues its mission by delivering internet services to rural residences and businesses, participating in the Federal Communications Commission’s broadband programs, and collaborating with Microsoft to provide digital skills training.

Vistabeam consistently seeks innovative approaches to address America's digital disparities, extending beyond the provision of broadband connectivity. The company's groundbreaking efforts in digital empowerment exemplify this commitment, and its third and latest Empowerment Center in Chappell, Nebraska, stands as a testament to the triumph of these initiatives.

Matt Silverman, representing Vistabeam's Business Development office, shared insights during the presentation held at the Chappell Senior Center on October 25. "People can come here and learn to navigate the web or explore online bill-pay. Some companies charge an extra $2 per month for paper billing, so by embracing online options, individuals can visit the Empowerment Center, access a bill-pay site, and efficiently settle their bills," explained Silverman.

Present at the event was Sedgwick County Health Center CEO Aidan Hettler, who addressed the potential use of the computers for remote medical visits. While Hettler acknowledged Sedgwick County's capability for telehealth visits, he emphasized the preference for patients to visit physical locations due to insurance considerations.

Silverman also highlighted additional programs available for seniors, including the opportunity to purchase desktop or laptop computers at a reduced cost. Vistabeam to Bring High-Speed Fiber Optic Internet to Oshkosh, Nebraska

Oshkosh, Nebraska – Nebraska-based Vistabeam Internet is thrilled to announce the commencement of a project that will bring cutting-edge fiber optic internet to the town of Oshkosh, Nebraska. This endeavor marks a significant milestone in the longstanding partnership between Vistabeam and Oshkosh, Nebraska, spanning nearly two decades.

Kicking off with the engineering phase–which is expected to take 3-4 months–Vistabeam will embark on a journey to transform the digital landscape of Oshkosh, Nebraska. With construction slated to begin in early 2024, this project promises to deliver an unparalleled Internet experience to the Oshkosh, Nebraska community.

Vistabeam CEO, Matt Larsen, expressed his excitement about bringing Vistabeam’s relationship with the Oshkosh, Nebraska community to the next level, stating, "Vistabeam's actually been providing service in this area since 2005. We got a grant from Garden County Economic Development back in the day, and we used that to build connectivity all the way from Scottsbluff down to Garden County, and we're really looking forward to putting the fiber into Oshkosh. We've started the transition from doing just wireless to start doing more fiber."

Vistabeam envisions this expansion as a significant step towards enhancing the connectivity and quality of life in Oshkosh, Nebraska. The addition of a fiber network is expected to be a game-changer for this vibrant community.

"It opens up a lot of different opportunities as far as being able to have more online learning, more telecommuting to jobs that are outside the community, education, just everything works better. So, we're really looking forward to getting the fiber built down here. I think it's going to be great for the town," Larsen added.

Presently, Vistabeam provides wireless service in the Oshkosh area. Larsen affirmed that Vistabeam is committed to its existing customers, as they will have the opportunity to transition from wireless to fiber at no additional cost once the fiber network is operational.

On April 3rd, 2023, Vistabeam was honored to present a $500 donation to 2 Scotts Bluff Robotics teams, The Last Gummy and The Lord of the Gummies, who made it to national robotics competitions.

The Last Gummy was invited to the Razorback FLL Invitational (Nationals) in Arkansas in May. The Lord of the Gummy earned an invitation to the WPI FLL Open (Nationals) in Massachusetts in June.

This is an exciting time for the Scotts Bluff Robotics program, with this being the first time they have progressed to the national level. It was also a proud moment for a member of Team Vistabeam, DJ, whose son, Landen, is part of The Last Gummy. Vistabeam is proud to help the teams on their journey. The proceeds will help with team registration, travel costs, and other needs.

Vistabeam to Deploy Gigabit Fiber Broadband Service in its First Fiber Town of Chappell, Nebraska

Chappell, NE - Vistabeam is excited to announce that it is bringing fiber optic internet to Chappell, Nebraska this December 2022.

The project will see Vistabeam deploy fiber broadband at data speeds up to symmetrical 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) to nearly 1000 residents in the Deuel County city. 

Shaunna Mashek, the Director of Chappell Community Development, said, “I wanted to give a big thank you to Matt and his crew at Vistabeam for choosing Chappell to be their first town with fiber optic internet! Your time and commitment to Chappell is greatly appreciated by our community and we are excited to have you choose us.”

Matt Larsen, CEO of Vistabeam, said, “Vistabeam is excited to complete the construction of our fiber broadband network in Chappell in October and hopes to be installing customers by the end of the year. This was made possible by the community's strong support to Vistabeam and our wireless broadband service, and now Chappell will be our first fiber town.”  

The project was not without its obstacles, namely, challenges from existing providers to block Vistabeam’s attempts to bring reliable, high-speed fiber broadband to the Chappell community. Larsen continued, “Several broadband grant applications were applied for but were blocked by incumbent providers, so Vistabeam invested their own money into the project and will use Chappell as a model for building hybrid fiber and wireless networks in other small towns. We look forward to being a part of Chappell for a long time."

A variety of residential and business data plans will be made available. Existing Vistabeam customers in Chappell will be able to switch from their current fixed wireless network to fiber without incurring any conversion fees. Similar to our residential fixed wireless plans, our residential fiber plans will allow eligible households to apply for the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to reduce the cost of service.

Vistabeam is proud to present a $2500 donation to the Legacy of the Plains Museum. This donation will go towards enhancing the Museum's various sites to continue promoting the story of the human and agricultural history in the North Platte Valley and High Plains.

As a company headquartered in Gering, Nebraska, Vistabeam is fortunate to be situated in this historic area and proud to take part in prolonging and upholding that history with this sponsorship to the Legacy of the Plains Museum.

The Legacy of the Plains Museum is located in Gering, Nebraska, on the Oregon Trail. It was founded in 2013 through the merger of the North Platte Valley Museum and the Farm and Ranch Museum. The Museum features an impressive collection of pioneer and early community artifacts, antique tractors, farm implements, an 80-acre working farm, historic farmstead structures, and striking views of Scotts Bluff National Monument.

Vistabeam’s donation is part of the Museum’s Phase 2 funding round. It will help to expand multiple sites, including the entrance, Family Fun Area, Japanese Hall Site, Maintenance Shop, Industrial Area, Second Equipment Building, Homesteads, Farmsteads, Equipment Display, Parade Grounds, and Railhead Exhibit. Phase one was completed earlier this year and included the merger of the museums, additions to the main building, the exhibit design, and more.
