Vistabeam Establishes Another Digital Empowerment Center in Yuma, Colorado

Vistabeam is pleased to announce the establishment of an empowerment center in Yuma, Colorado. This location is Vistabeam's second empowerment center following the opening of its first one in Torrington, Wyoming in March. Yuma residents can now benefit from services including digital skills training, broadband-enabled workstations, and digital navigation assistance.

Since 2004, Vistabeam’s primary mission has been to bridge the digital divide, growing to cover parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming. The company is fulfilling this mission by providing rural residential and business internet services, participating in the Federal Communications Commission’s broadband programs, and partnering with Microsoft on digital skills training. 

Vistabeam continually looks for ways to bridge America’s digital divide beyond just offering broadband connectivity. Its pioneering work on digital empowerment is an example of this, and the opening of the Yuma Empowerment Center is a testament to the success of the endeavor.

“For too long, telecommunications companies have been cutting jobs in rural communities and outsourcing to other places. We want to reverse that,” said Matt Larsen, CEO of Vistabeam. “Empowering communities is one of our core values, and the Empowerment Centers are an opportunity for us to build a deeper connection with the communities we serve and help people in need.” 

The Yuma Empowerment Center features several workstations for digital education, with computers available and accessible on a walk-in basis. Vistabeam has worked with Microsoft to offer digital skills programming at these workstations along with access to other online learning resources. A full-time trained digital navigator will be present to assist eligible community members in signing up for the Affordable Connectivity Program and help with other digital equity requests.

Vistabeam Completes Acquisition of Airbits

Estes Park, CO – As part of our mission to bridge the digital divide, Vistabeam is pleased to announce that as of July 1, 2023, it acquired Airbits High Speed Internet.

Airbits has served the communities of Estes Park and Pole Hill in services such as internet, computer repair, network consulting, and web design. Formed in 2000, Airbits was Estes Park’s first high-speed internet service provider. 

Matt Larsen, CEO of Vistabeam, said, “I have known the owners of Airbits for some time and have immense respect for the work that they have done for the Estes Park community. Vistabeam and Airbits have always had a lot of mutual respect. This was a great opportunity for Airbits to exit and transition their customers to a company that already has a strong Northern Colorado presence and one that they believe can continue to provide the service their customers have come to expect.”

The acquisition will add 25 towers of coverage in the Estes Valley, expanding Vistabeam’s growing infrastructure and presence in the state of Colorado that first began in Sterling back in 2011. Vistabeam is also retaining a familiar face from the Airbits team, namely Chris Hess, who has been a Support Technician at Airbits since 2011. Chris and additional Vistabeam team members—comprised of customer care staff and field technicians—will continue operating out of the local office at 439 Elkhorn Ave #3, Estes Park, CO 80517.

Vistabeam Completes Acquisition of Front Range Internet’s Fixed Wireless Product

Fort Collins, CO – As part of our mission to bridge the digital divide, Vistabeam is pleased to announce that on November 1, 2022, it acquired Front Range Internet Inc.’s fixed wireless network. 

For more than 25 years, Front Range Internet Inc. (FRII) has served Northern Colorado, both as an internet service provider and a commercial data center.

Matt Larsen, CEO of Vistabeam, said, “We have always wanted to expand into the Front Range and have been in contact with FRII for several months. Our foray into Northern Colorado is years in the making, and we are glad to finally be given the opportunity to serve the Front Range communities. We look forward to bringing reliable and extraordinary internet to the area.”

The acquisition will add several towers of coverage in Northern Colorado, expanding Vistabeam’s growing infrastructure and presence in the state that first began in Sterling, Colorado. Larsen added, “The infrastructure we obtained from the acquisition is just the beginning. We understand that Northern Colorado is a fast-growing and densely populated area. We intend to add several more towers and a local office to service both our newly acquired and potential customers.”

This local office will house customer care staff and field technicians.  Until the new office is established, Vistabeam will serve the area from their Laramie and Gering locations.
