When wireless Internet service provider Vistabeam outgrew their building in Gering, they looked toward Mitchell as a place where they could continue growing the business. In one short year, Vistabeam has taken three empty buildings in downtown Mitchell and converted them into a thriving hub of activity where eleven employees ply their trade. The former Hometown Harvest grocery store is now filled with workbenches, computer workstations and shelves full of inventory in its new role as the Vistabeam shop. At the shop, the infrastructure teams unpack, assemble, program and load all of the equipment needed to build their wireless network. The large red building and fenced-in yard behind the grocery store is the new Vistabeam warehouse, home to a ladder truck, portable towers and tower hardware. The two story building at 1214 Center Avenue that used to have after school art classes and host community meetings is now the home to meeting rooms, offices, disaster recovery servers and a 10 Gigabit fiber connection. Vistabeam is continuing to grow in Mitchell, and is now looking to add more members of the team, with new positions open for field technicians, phone support and apprentice workers.
Mitchell is also the first place where Vistabeam is implementing two new advanced wireless services, Freedom Spectrum powered by Vistabeam and VistabeamHD. Freedom Spectrum is a new kind of residential service, that will deliver speeds of up to 100Mb with no data caps to the home. Freedom Spectrum consists of a new type of wireless deployment, with a mesh of small access points throughout the town connected into a mesh of gigabit fiber and wireless.
VistabeamHD is a new kind of wireless for commercial and industrial applications, capable of speeds up to 1 Gigabit and backed by a redundant, fiber fed network. When fiber cuts take other providers down- businesses, residents and schools suffer. The Vistabeam network is designed to survive fiber cuts, with multiple routes through the area and local support in place to make sure any outage is a short one. In short, VistabeamHD delivers fiber level speeds and low latency needed for commercial and industrial applications, backed by a reliable network and local support.
